Oakbank House is a luxury bed and breakfast that can be found in the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere, in the Lake District National Park. Our guest accommodation is a retreat for adults, away from the stresses of modern living and is in an ideal location for exploring the many delights that Cumbria has on offer. The house itself is a former “gentleman’s residence” dating back over 160 years and still boasts some of the original features of the house. Breakfast is served in our dining room that overlooks Lake Windermere. We use only the best local produce and the choice on our menu is second to none.
Our lounge overlooks the lake and is ideal for relaxing with a book and a drink. There are maps, games and plenty of reading material to help you idle away the time or plan your days’ activity.
We offer FREE use of the McDonald's Old England Leisure Spa in Windermere with a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, ice room, multi gymnasium and a Health Spa. It is a three-minute walk away from Oakbank House and is available seven days per week. Spa Treatments are not free and we advise advance booking if you wish to have spa treatments.
In and around Bowness-on-Windermere, there is an abundance of things to do. During the day you can visit the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and The Old Laundry Theatre. Why not go out on the lake itself on one of the various types of boats available for hire or go on a Windermere Lake Cruise. Later, you can visit the Steamboat Museum. A short stroll from the guest house will take you to the many restaurants, shops and bars in the town. Being in the Lake District National Park there are many areas of outstanding natural beauty that can be explored on foot or via transport. Where ever you choose to go there is not a more central base than Bowness on Windermere.
