Lindeth Howe has been enlarged in recent years very much in keeping with the original design and style. A full range of single, double, twin and family rooms, including two spacious, ground floor disabled facilities room, are available, all furnished to a high standard. On the ground floor you will find comfortable lounges, a bar, restaurant, and leisure area featuring a swimming pool, sauna and fitness room.
The hotel has a pleasant sun terrace, gently sloping lawns and a small tranquil woodland area to explore. Views over Lake Windermere and to the fells are spectacular whatever the time of year.
Lindeth Howe was built as a summer holiday home for a wealthy mill owner in 1897. It was situated in a 28-acre estate commanding fine views over Windermere. He rented the house out to friends for holidays. Amongst those people were the Potter family.
Bruce Canon Vernon Wentworth of Wentworth Castle, nr Barnsley, a retired Captain of Her Majesty's Grenadier Guards bought the house around the turn of the century.
During the period 1902 to 1913, amid the peace and tranquillity of the area, Beatrix Potter wrote and illustrated her wonderful stories, two of which, Timmy Tiptoes and Pigland Bland, were illustrated whilst she was at Lindeth Howe.
