The old Hall’s mellowed walls have many historical tales to tell, as it is said to be the oldest hotel in England. Idyllically located in the centre of Buxton, across the leafy square from the Pavilion Gardens & Opera House. Mary Queen of Scots was the most distinguished visitor in 1573 and had apartments for a number of summers as a house prisoner. The Old Hall retains that rich pedigree of the past whilst catering for today’s discerning guest. All our bedrooms have bathroom en-suite – relax and soak in the atmosphere.
A very special place to eat – our restaurant overlooking the Gardens is open daily and we offer an a la carte menu with vegetarian options. We have an extensive wine list with many of our wines offered by the glass. If you are visiting the theatre our Per and Post Theatre Meals are perfect but we advise you to book. Mary’s Wine bar is open all day serving morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner and a visit is recommended.
There are many places of interest in and around Buxton with wonderful places to visit including Chatsworth (you can get discounted tickets from Reception), Gaddon Hall, Castleton, Bakewell, Matlock, Matlock Bath, Hathersage, Tideswell and Eyam. For the more energetic the surrounding area had many interesting walks to offer.
